The question posed in the title was proposed to me during a debate about the 2014 free agency period. LeBron James can opt out of his contract with the Heat after the 13-14 season and become a free agent. Andre Iguodala’s contract, as currently constructed, makes him a free agent in 2014. Would it be prudent for LeBron to leave Wade and join forces with Iguodala in 2014?
Obviously, that question can’t really be answered, especially considering that the 12-13 and 13-14 seasons haven’t even happened yet. However, this discussion snowballed into the question, would you rather have Iguodala or Wade for the 12-13 season?
Some quick guidelines:
- We are talking both of these players’ current contracts. So Wade is more expensive.
- The idea is that their teams randomly amnestied them and you get to play GM for the team that you root for, and could acquire either of the two.
- Once again, it is for the upcoming NBA season.
Personally, I would rather have Iguodala. He’s 2 years younger than Wade and he has not had issues with injury, something that we saw Wade struggle with a lot last year. The knock on Iguodala in the debate is that Wade can carry an offense more effectively. However, outside of pure scoring ability and shooting, Iguodala is better than Wade at just about everything. Wade has historically been a better player, but the age variable and his injuries put Iguodala over the edge for me.
Editor’s Note: Really curious to see comments on this. Also wondering if Iguodala can put up a fight.
