And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: it’s time to crown a winner in the Wages of Wins Playoffs Contest!
Before we get to the winner and the top scores, I’d like to thank everyone who participated. The idea to hold a massive contest came to me less than two days before the start of the playoffs, and the number of entries exceeded my expectations. Next year we hope to have an even better and bigger contest!
All of the following participants posted higher scores than anyone in the TrueHoop Stat Geek Smackdown this year — the high scores were 68 points by Tom Haberstroh and Jeff Ma (although ESPN’s “The Crowd” did finish with 72 points). The all-time TrueHoop Smackdown score — set by our own Dave Berri in 2009 — is 75, so a special shout-out to our top five for beating the record!
- 9th place: KleRoi, 70 points
- 8th place: smamerow, 71 points
- 6th place: Devin Dignam, 75 points
- 6th place: Joshua Perry, 75 points
- 5th place: Jared Ladbury, 79 points
- 4th place: Rich Campbell, 82 points
- 3rd place: Ivica, 83 points
- 2nd place: Kevin Draper, 84 points
And the winner of this year’s contest is…Ed Blayney, who finished with an impressive 87 points! Here is a bit more about our winner:
I am a long-time NBA fan, but only recently got back on the bandwagon. 2010-2011 season was the first year I really paid attention since the 2002-2003 season. I loved Allen Iverson, but that brand of basketball killed my interest in the league. I play pick up basketball regularly and have started to play the game with a more “analytical” approach. I would say my “Wins Produced” has dramatically increased as a result of the Wages of Wins website.
My favorite NBA team is the Charlotte Hornets, at least once they make the much-needed name-change. I am also partial to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ed’s win will surely soothe the pain associated with being a fan of two of the…shall we say, less illustrious…NBA franchises. For his prize, Ed will be getting a Wages of Wins T-shirt and gets to select the topic of an upcoming post. But more importantly, Ed gets bragging rights for an entire year!
On that note: we still have some loose ends on the NBA Playoffs, and the NBA Draft starts on Thursday, June 27th at 7:00PM EST, so we have several posts planned over the next two weeks. Stay tuned!
